My Griffith University Experience

Explore a selection of university assignments showcasing my journey through civil engineering principles and practices. Each project reflects a commitment to academic excellence and a developing understanding of the field.

Strand 7 - software

Frame design

As part of my university studies at Griffith, I completed a structural engineering project using Strand7 finite element software. The objective was to model and analyze a steel frame system and determine the optimal span that satisfied design requirements for shear force, bending moment, and deflection.

  • 3D finite element modeling and interpretation

  • Application of Australian Standards

  • Structural optimization and decision-making

  • Professional technical documentation and reporting

HEC-HMS Hydraulic Modeling

Hydrologic Analysis of the Brisbane River Catchment – University Project

This project focused on simulating and analyzing the Brisbane River catchment upstream of the Gregors Creek flow gauge using HEC-HMS.

The study involved flood frequency analysis, design flow simulations for present-day and climate change scenarios, and an evaluation of historical floods such as the January 2011 event.

Key Skills Developed:

  • Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling (HEC-HMS)

  • Climate change impact assessment (RCP8.5 scenarios)

  • Interpretation of design hydrographs and flow frequency data

  • Technical reporting of flood behavior in subtropical environments

Residential Home Construction Estimate

In this project, I prepared a complete Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), preliminary cost estimate, and construction schedule for a residential house build.

The work included detailed cost calculations for materials and labor, a full Gantt chart timeline, and a breakdown of construction activities from initial site preparation to final project handover.

Key Skills Developed:

  • Project management and scheduling

  • Construction cost estimation

  • Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) preparation

  • Report formatting for client-facing deliverables

Maturity in Approach

What sets my projects apart is the maturity I bring to each challenge. This involves a thoughtful consideration of real-world implications, a practical approach to problem-solving, and a dedication to delivering robust, reliable solutions.
